ELECTROHYDROPULSE TREATMENT
OF METAL STRUCTURES
FOR RESIDUAL STRESS RELIEF
ACCOMPLISHED RESULTS
High-performance decrease (by 50-70%) of residual stresses in welded and cast metal work and structural strengthening of joint welds.
ESSENCE
Metal structure treatment by repeated pressure pulses generated by high-voltage electric discharges in water.
ADVANTAGES:
- environmental cleanness of the method in combination with successful treatment;
- amplification of structure-sensitive characteristics of metal work (long-term strength, endurance, stress-corrosion cracking resistance);
- productivity to 2... 6 t/h;
- power input is an order of magnitude less than during heat treatment;
- metal does nott soften;
- metal fatigue range of welded joints is by 30% increased.
EFFICIENCY:
- possibility to reduce residual stresses in welded structures and directional parts from metals having a various expansion coefficient;
- scaling is excluded, and, thus, mechanical purification against scaling is unnecessary, and this prevents metal losses;
- complex use of this technology with the technology of electrohydraulic casting purification allows for combining the purification operations and residual stress relief in castings.
